Two weeks ago, our Senior Adult ministry hosted a Zentangle event, led by our very own Sallie Sassano. If you're wondering what Zentangle is, it's a method of drawing that uses repetitive lines and shapes to create intricate patterns within a structured framework. Through the practice, simple drawing can bring mindfulness and intentionality. Each stroke of the pen is like a mindful meditation, urging you to be totally present in the moment and not sweat the small stuff.
Fifteen folks signed up to join us for this creative outlet, a way to explore life's rhythm in a beautiful way. As we all know, life isn't always just about keeping up with the fast pace, but also finding those moments of stillness and beauty. Doing this practice together as a community and during the Lenten season made it uniquely meaningful. Lent is all about reflection and spiritual growth, so it was the perfect time to dive into some new ways of praying and contemplating. Our worship theme, "Patterns of Prayer, Rhythms of Life," really hit home as people translated those patterns into their art, blending their spiritual journey with their creative expression.
My Zentangle art pictured here is clearly not perfect, and may not be nearly as pretty as that of the person who sat next to me in class, but it gave me time to intentionally breathe, to sit with its imperfections, and to draw a new rhythm for myself. In a world where the hustle and bustle so often disconnects us from one another, taking a breather to appreciate the little things and connecting in community are crucial.
Our Senior Adult ministry (JOY) gathers frequently to do just that — pause, take a deep breath, and soak in the joys of community. Whether it's enjoying nature, connecting with friends, or experiencing something new, it's all about finding joy together. If you wished you had joined Zentangle, know that we've got many more opportunities coming up. Take a look at the section below to learn about our events this spring. I hope you'll come join us next time!
