Harvest Ahead Capital Campaign

“This is what we are about. We plant seeds that one
day will grow. We water seeds already planted,
knowing that they hold future promise. We lay
foundations that will need further development.
We provide yeast that produces effects beyond our
capabilities. We cannot do everything . . . but it is
a beginning, an opportunity for God’s grace . . . .”
Archbishop Oscar Romero

Saint John’s has always been about accomplishing big things—about being part of something bigger than all of us. We really do believe our stated mission that we are creating a community where God’s love changes people, and God’s people change the world.
Our Church Council approved a plan, known as The Harvest Ahead, to raise a minimum of $1.4 million from 2011 to 2014. Eighty-five percent of the amount raised is going to reduce our current debt principal; 15 percent will improve our physical plant, including landscaping, signage, lighting, and improvements to our main entrance.
Before the campaign began two years ago, we were out of capital campaign money, which was used to make principal payments (about $5,500 per month) to pay down our $2.1 million in remaining loans. Harvest Ahead money is being used to reduce our outstanding capital loans.
The interest expense on our debt is $140,000 per year and is included in our church operating budget. By comparison, our current annual program ministry budget is less than $50,000.
As the dividends from loan repayment become available, the leadership of Saint John’s will apply these resources toward initiating and expanding ministry and missional programming.
Imagine what is possible . . .
• extending and creating new ministries with children, youth, adults.
• furthering our reach in mission with our community and around the world.
• deepening our practices of study and faith formation.
Thank you for your partnership in dreaming of all God can do in our midst.
